Some Silver Love

I have been admiring Linda Norton's work for some time now. She lives in Ajo! I especially love this piece, but really enjoy all of her work.

I am totally obsessed with this Cat Power song, I could just play it over and over again..which is what I've been doing! It is from her Jukebox album, which is all covers so I was curious who did it originally...
I wasn't too surprised to discover it was by The Highwaymen. Made up of some of my all time faves- Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson.
Check out their version here.
Not as haunting as Cat Power's version.

OMG, Team Dean and Hoppin' John

So I looked at the date of my last blog post and it was Dec.7th, the day before I went to my doctor for my prenatal check up, was promptly diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and told to go to the hospital. The next two weeks were spent in Phoenix at the hospital with tubes, catheters, various other craziness that I'll spare you... and then this little baby.....

Six weeks early changes a lot of plans and I am now in the process of being a mom and trying to Be Here Now, instead of planning weeks ahead all of my glorious schemes.
I started this blog last January and have enjoyed doing it and hopefully being motivated through it, which is still the goal.
I have some ideas for daily drawings, etcetera that I want to begin but I am putting them slightly on hold while I get the house and everything under control.
(this goes back to doing too much, too soon and not being chill enough)
So in the meantime I will be posting small inspirations, images and goodies to keep me involved in the blog with out over doing it.

In that simple spirit, some pics of Hoppin' John that I made today. So good and brings Good Luck!! Can't beat that!

I am wishing us all peace and inspiration in the coming year.
We are capable and open, ready to begin.

Another Amazing Trade

While getting ready for my baby shower I wanted to make an altar and began searching for goddess sculptures on Etsy.
I ran across the work of Katharina from Gislebertus and fell in love with all of her amazing sculptures!

She was open to doing a trade and it turned out her parents live in Prescott! Small worlds right?!

These are the pieces I traded for her amazing piece pictured above.

I love how the altar came together and want to thank Katharina again for her openness and kindness. Check out her shop!!

Thirty-Three

I turned thirty-three on Thursday. Sounds like a pretty good number, double the fun!
Some thirty-three facts, according to wikipedia:

  • The atomic number of arsenic
  • A normal human spine has 33 vertebrae when the bones that form the coccyx are counted individually
  • 33 is according to the Newton Scale, the temperature when water boils.
  • A significant number in modern numerology, one of the master numbers along with 11 and 22
33 is the coming of age of a hobbit in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings

Well, I do feel I am coming of age, at least a new age. Wednesday is my last day of work at the coffee shop. The Jerome gallery is wrapping up at the end of December.
I am cleaning the slate, clearing a path for my daughter to join me here.
Wish me luck.

Beyond Printmaking

A group of nine women printmakers currently has a show up at the Raven in downtown Prescott.
It's a great mix of work and very affordable.

This show will be up until January so you have plenty of time to check it out.

We're considering having another opening in December, I will keep you posted.

We did a show here last year and were successful.

This year the art director hung all our work inter mingled instead of in sections.
It looks great!

Hope you can all make it by!

Bisbee Butter

Bisbee is known for its Bisbee Blue turquoise, and now it might be known for another alliterative title- "Bisbee Butter".

Apple Butter that is! The great place we stayed at had some amazing apple trees that we were told we could help ourselves to. Well you don't have to tell me twice!!

I am a big fan of free fruit, urban harvesting , etc.. AND these apples were deliciously tart and gorgeous as well. Hardly a worm was found!

All I've been doing for apple butter is cutting up the apples, (peels on) and putting them in the slow cooker with nutmeg and cinnamon- not even any sugar!
This batch turned out delicious and a very charming shade of burgundy.
I cooked the apples on low for about 7-10 hours.
And walla! Awesome Bisbee Butter!

......Bonus round... the first person to comment on this post receives a jar of the aforementioned butter...send me your address.....! fun!
